I
was so glad to receive your letter. I hope that you
are in good health and enjoying enough of everything
else. I think of you every time I look at my pictures....
so many of them taken during the wonderful tours that
you took us on. The Mercado Oriental was a great experience
that I will never forget. What was the name of the building
where we saw all of the wonderful pictures at the market?
For me, you helped me to understand Managua, and through
that to have a better understanding of Nicaragua. You
said that "you can not know Nicaragua without knowing
Managua." In looking back, I am understanding what
you meant each time. Urban tourism is important, though
there are some tragic stories and tragic sights... and
in your honest presentation you allowed those impressions
to create a complicated landscape that truly reflects
the nature of the city of Managua. At the same time,
the tours and the overall experience are not remembered
most, it is the wonderful people like you who dot that
landscape. It is true that Nicaraguans are very friendly
people... but why wouldn't they be when they have places
like Comedor Sara to eat and drink at. The tour of the
volcanic mud ponds was very bueno also [Hervideros de
San Jacinto, León]. I hope to see you again soon
and to keep in contact by email.

thanks so much for your rushed tour of Managua. It was
an eye opener for me as I had no idea about the history
of the city and the rise and fall of the various leaders.
The downtown area was beautiful in spite of the calamities

Soy
sueco pero ahora vivo en Managua. He ido con CITY TOURS
- Managua varias veces junto con amig@s que estaban
aquí de visita. Es perfecto, yo quiero conocer
mejor mi nueva ciudad y aprender más de su historia,
también quiero que mis amig@s puedan entender
y aprovechar Managua también. La ciudad es fantástica
pero puede ser muy difícil explorarla sin guía.

Muchas gracias por su mensaje, me alegro de ver que
el proyecto de CITY TOURS – Managua va por adelante.
Desde ese domingo con Ustedes dos no he regresado a
Managua... Se me está acabando el material para
hacer artesanía ya que hice un montón
para regalar y para llevarlos. Recién, aprendí
a hacer atrapa sueños en Little Corn Island,
donde Ramón.
Con mucho gusto aquí les mando unas palabras
para su página:
Viviendo en la Costa Caribe de Nicaragua, la ciudad
de Managua me parecía hostil y no me gustaba
mucho. Pero me atraía el mercado Oriental sin
haber tenido nunca la oportunidad de aventurarme por
su laberinto reputado peligroso. Gracias a ustedes,
Emilio y Alice, por haberme dado a conocer este laberinto
de vida, y otras partes de la capital, compartiendo
vuestras buenas vibras al mismo tiempo que tanta información.
En
cuanto a la foto, supongo que no han podido recuperar
las de la cámara que andaban, si es que tomó
alguna foto en aquel día... Así que aquí
les envío esta (busqué una no muy seria...)
Pues,
todavía me quedo con un recuerdo inolvidable
de aquel domingo y no me olvidaré de llamarlos
para una cervecita la próxima vez que llego a
Managua.

Autant il paraît chaotique de circuler à
pied dans les grandes avenues de Managua, autant ici,
à peine descendu du bus à l'entrée
du Mercado Oriental aux côtés d’Emilio,
on constate très rapidement que c'est le seul
moyen adapté de locomotion. Pour découvrir
les différentes parties du marché, je
le suis à l'aveugle, vite désorientée
par les nombreux petits passages que nous empruntons
pour passer de l'alimentaire aux remèdes aphrodisiaques
et autres à base de plantes, à la quincaillerie,
au petit et gros équipement, aux livres, aux
tissus, aux Hifi et aux CD. La liste pourrait être
encore longue...et vous l'aurez certainement compris,
au Mercado oriental, qui couvre environ 50 ha dans la
ville, on trouve absolument de tout et à tous
les prix. Après avoir goûté diverses
spécialités locales et beaucoup ri des
remèdes magiques pour mettre son chef de bonne
humeur ou pour séduire les princes et princesses
charmantes, nous nous retrouvons tout à coup
dans un calme et un ordre absolument inattendu, dans
l'église de ce quartier. Très étonnante
et ressourçante, cette pause me permettra de
faire la transition avant de retourner avec de remarquables
souvenirs vers des parties de la ville moins grouillantes
d’activités. Encore un grand merci pour
cette visite et les nombreuses autres choses que vous
m'avez tous les deux faits découvrir jusqu'ici.

le seul tour qui offre une visite du Mercado Oriental.
Fantastique ! On ne peut rien comprendre du vrai Nicaragua
tant qu'on n'y a pas mis les pieds. Mais attention aux
pickpockets..."
